Favorite Prayers

I was tagged by Breadgirl, at the Last Welsh Martyr, to list my favorite 3 prayers and then to tag 5 other people to do the same.

Here is the link for Breadgirl's blog:

This little exercise was especially helpful to me because I have only been a Catholic for one year and can benefit greatfully by learning more prayers.

Here are my 3 prayers:

I pray this Novena daily for my non-Catholic relatives, especially my husband, children and grandchildren. It is a big comfort to me.

Novena to St. Monica:

Faithful God, light of all hearts
We praise you for St. Monica,
A woman of living faith
And reconciling love.
She nursed her son Augustine
On the name of Jesus and
Urged him to a Christian way of life.
In answer to her prayers for his conversion
Thou gavest her greater joy
Than all her tears had dared to ask.
Hear our prayers for _________'s conversion.
As once thou didist capture the heart
Of St. Augustine, so now draw our hearts to thee,
Oh Beauty, ever ancient, ever new.
A-men.

This prayer is the first Catholic prayer I learned. Coming from a long Protestant background, praying this prayer helped me to realize the importance of our Mother, Mary:

Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now
And at the moment of our death.
A-men.

This prayer is the most recent Catholic prayer I have learned. It gives me strength in times of difficulty.

Prayer to Saint Michael, the Archangel:

St. Michael, the Archangel
Defend us in battle.
Be our protection against
The wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
And do though oh Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God,
Thrust into Hell – Satan
And all the evil spirits,
Who prowl through the earth,
Seeking the ruin of souls.
A-men
